A Hiab lorry combines a transport vehicle with a mounted hydraulic crane. That means the same vehicle can arrive at the collection point, lift a load onto its bed, transport it and lift it off at the destination. For many jobs this is more practical than arranging a separate mobile crane and haulage vehicle.
What can a Hiab transport?
Lorry mounted cranes are used for many loads that cannot be handled by an ordinary flatbed. Typical work includes portable cabins, shipping containers, plant and machinery, generators, tanks, steelwork, signs, kiosks and other awkward or heavy items. The correct vehicle depends on the load rather than its description alone.
Weight is important, but so are the dimensions, lifting points and required reach. A relatively light item placed behind a wall may require more crane capacity than a heavier item positioned close to the lorry.
