Shipping Container Transport with Hiab Offload

A suitable crane lorry can collect, carry and offload a shipping unit as one coordinated movement.

Hiab collection and delivery

We move shipping containers, site stores and containerised equipment using operated crane lorries selected for the unit size, verified weight, route and delivery conditions. The on-board crane may load at collection, offload at delivery or handle the unit at both sites.

An empty unit can still require significant crane capacity, especially at a longer lifting radius. Its dimensions, gross weight, lifting points and any contents must be confirmed before a vehicle is allocated.

Standard and non-standard sizes

We welcome enquiries for 10ft, 16ft, 20ft, 24ft, 32ft and 40ft units. Standard shipping containers are commonly 10ft, 20ft or 40ft long, while converted units and site stores may be supplied in non-standard lengths such as 16ft, 24ft or 32ft.

The stated length alone does not determine the haulage or lifting requirements. The exact external dimensions, weight, construction, lifting points and any contents must be checked before the work is confirmed.

Access needed for offload

The lorry needs a safe approach, firm standing area and enough room for outriggers and crane operation. Gates, parked vehicles, walls, buildings, overhead cables and soft ground may restrict the lift. The intended orientation and final position should be marked on photographs where possible.

If the unit must be placed behind an obstruction or away from the vehicle, provide the approximate lifting radius. Longer reach reduces the weight a crane can handle and may change the vehicle required.

Useful information

Frequently asked questions

Can a Hiab lorry deliver and offload a shipping container?

Yes, when the container weight, lifting points, access, crane capacity, radius and ground conditions are suitable.

What sizes can you transport?

We welcome enquiries for 10ft, 16ft, 20ft, 24ft, 32ft and 40ft shipping containers, site stores and converted units. Suitability depends on the exact dimensions, weight, lifting points and access.

Do you move loaded units?

Potentially, but the verified gross weight, contents, lifting points and road-movement requirements must be reviewed before we confirm a vehicle.

How much space is needed for delivery?

It varies by vehicle and lift. If you have them, wide access photographs and measurements of the route, standing area, obstructions and final position will help us assess it.
